Auburn school resource officer receives award from state association
June 05 2025
ORANGE BEACH, Ala. - On June 2, The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers, or TAASRO, honored Auburn Police Officer Damion Barry with its 2025 Above the Call of Duty Award.
Presented at TAASRO’s annual conference, the award is given to a school resource officer, or SRO, who has made significant contributions to their community by going above and beyond their assigned duties.
Officer Barry has served with the Auburn Police Department for over eight years, spending the past four years as an SRO at Auburn Junior High School and Auburn High School consecutively.
Through his work as a police officer and SRO, Officer Barry has earned a widely respected reputation among his peers and school officials.
“Time and time again, Officer Barry has stepped in to assist students facing financial hardship, quietly paying for their meals, purchasing clothing for those in need and providing essential household items to struggling families,” said Barry's partner, Officer Michael Veasey. “These acts of kindness are done without expectation of recognition, but they have made a world of difference to those on the receiving end.”
The Auburn Police Department is proud to have officers like Officer Damion Barry representing their agency and protecting their schools.
